    We were proud to host the recent Management Consultancies Association lunchtime briefing with Emma Pinchbeck FEI, CEO of the Climate Change Committee (CCC). With an introduction from Laura Frost – our Climate Team Leader with extensive experience supporting the CCC – Emma shared insights on the seventh carbon budget, the risks posed by climate change, and the urgent need for greater resilience through adaptation, including the UK’s energy transition. Collaboration will ultimately be key, with every sector having a role to play in enabling the UK’s low-carbon future. At present, however, there are gaps that need to be addressed to accelerate this transformation. Our new white paper, Sustainability Through Delivery, explores the transformative potential of Project, Programme and Portfolio Management (P3M) in addressing these gaps, shaping outcomes, and enabling the effective delivery of critical sustainability goals for our clients.     We’re proud to support the Pakistan Accord on Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry – a transformative initiative aimed at improving safety standards across the country’s textile and garment sector. Working alongside the International Accord, our experts developed scalable methodologies for structural, fire, boiler and electrical safety assessments. The programme prioritises worker safety through the remediation of existing buildings, enhancing the industry’s adaptability to evolving safety standards. By training local engineering teams and government organisations, we are helping to embed a culture of safety and contributing to lasting improvements in Pakistan’s textile and garment industry and beyond. #BuildingSafety #Resilience #SustainableDevelopment

    Reinventing a Sydney icon through circular design. Instead of demolishing the 1970s AMP Centre, Quay Quarter Tower was transformed into a 49-storey landmark for Sydney’s Circular Quay retaining 98% of the original structural walls and core and 65% of the existing floorplates. This saved 12,000 tonnes of embodied carbon the equivalent of nearly 70,000 Sydney–Melbourne flights. It’s the world’s first commercial tower retrofit to feature double-deck lifts, saving nine lift shafts and creating 120m² more usable space per floor. Smart building technology optimises air quality and energy use, while a high-performance façade with custom sunshades reduces cooling demand and maximises daylight and harbour views.     We have been appointed to lead the integrated Masterplan for the Victoria Park Precinct, a transformative project at the heart of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The precinct, which will include the future Brisbane Stadium, National Aquatic Centre, and Brisbane Athlete Village, is set to become a vibrant hub for sport, recreation, and community life. We will deliver the foundational planning, design, and technical investigations to shape this generational infrastructure investment, ensuring seamless experiences for athletes, officials and visitors alike. Drawing on our extensive experience from global events such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, we’re excited to help reimagine the inner Brisbane precinct as a world-class destination for recreation, events, and lifestyle. The goal is to create a lasting legacy for Queenslanders well beyond the Games, with vibrant, resilient spaces that serve the community for generations.     A chance to create spacious, inspiring underground stations for the Metro Tunnel Project – with some of the widest underground metro platforms in the world. The Metro Tunnel Project will transform city travel, with new destinations and more choice. The trinocular cavern design for State Library and Town Hall stations create a wide–open space for the concourse and platforms. Inspired by the sweeping arches and ceilings of the Moscow Metro, the stations have vaulted ceilings and 18-metre-wide platforms which provide plenty of room for peak hour transit. The three overlapping tunnels of the trinocular cavern allow for a lower tunnel height, a smaller excavation footprint, and faster construction time. In a joint venture with WSP and Arcadis, working as part of the Cross Yarra Partnership Design and Construction, we undertook detailed design for the Metro Tunnel and five underground stations designed for Melbourne’s growing population.     As part of our commitment to becoming a net zero organisation, we set ambitious interim targets to reduce our absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions and our absolute scope 3 emissions 30% by 2025 from a 2019 baseline. Our latest results show we have exceeded these targets, achieving an 88% reduction in our absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 35% reduction in our absolute scope 3 emissions in 2025.     Embedding philanthropy in the heart of Houston through sustainable design Established in 1937, Houston Endowment has long supported a vibrant and inclusive region where all residents can thrive. Its new headquarters on the edge of Spotts Park brings this mission to life creating an accessible, community-centered workplace that reflects the foundation’s values. Arup envisioned the design with Kevin Daly Architects and Productora, delivering one of the first hybrid steel and cross-laminated timber (CLT) buildings in Texas. This innovative approach cut structural costs in half, reduced the construction schedule, and achieved a 40% reduction in embodied carbon compared to the original scheme. A latticed canopy shelters the building with integrated photovoltaics, maximizing daylight while reducing cooling demand and energy use. Inside, 40,000 ft² of open and flexible space provides room for collaboration, community events, and the foundation’s philanthropic work.     Meet Guo Jun Li, our Sustainability Engineer who played a key role in shaping the sustainability design of the Kai Tak Sports Park. To Jun, the site reminds him of some early childhood memories—watching planes fly over Kowloon’s densely packed cityscape and descend towards the old airport. Today, he’s part of the team that transformed the iconic location into Hong Kong’s new landmark. From rainwater recycling to a massive rooftop solar system, Jun and the team embedded sustainability into every detail. The team also optimised the park’s wind environment, daylighting and landscape to enhance visitor comfort. What’s most memorable for Jun was the collaborative spirit, where multidisciplinary teamwork was key to turning a sustainability vision into a built reality.
