Amer Saeed’s Experience

  • .

    Price Waterhouse Coopers

    (Partnership; Accounting industry)

    September 2009Present (5 months)

  • Senior Consultant / Assistant Manager

    Deloitte

    (Partnership; Management Consulting industry)

    June 2008September 2009 (1 year 4 months)

I work as a Senior Consultant (Assistant Manager) within the Enterprise Risk Service (Audit) practice of Deloitte. Within this team I work in the Data team whose main area of work involves data analytics, data quality, insights, audit support, data migrations and any projects that involve analysis or manipulation of data. Engagements have included (without mentioning client names):

•Sanctions related work for a large bank involving extensive data matching techniques and manipulations.
•Royalties audit involving detailed analysis of a Telco’s revenue share process.
•Reconciliation of Telco network data to provide assurance over a data retention solution (in line with EU directive) as well as profiling of Telco subscriber data.
•Calculation of FSCS compensation for defaulted banks.
•Audit/Reconciliation of credit card data following migration from Equasion to VisionPlus.

Each engagement has required a very detailed understanding of data and the advanced use of data query / manipulation tools e.g. advanced SQL, Dataflux, Trillium on mainly the SQL server platform. I have managed myself and others, working alone and often within highly skilled groups, to deliver extremely challenging and demanding projects.

Due to my experience and particular expertise in this area, I am aligned to the Telecoms, Media or Technology (TMT) stream and have contributed to a considerable amount of business development opportunities around this area including royalties, Telco EU regulation and Telco predictive analytic opportunities.

  • Business Intelligence Technical Developer

    Vodafone

    (Public Company; VOD; Telecommunications industry)

    July 2006February 2007 (8 months)

I worked as a technical developer within the Business Intelligence development team, working on the development of BI reports that are generally small enough not to be included in a fully fledged BI project. They included adhoc and small enhancement requests from the business that took a maximum of 10 days to code and unit test. Extensive knowledge and understanding of Vodafone’s vast interfacing systems and databases, particularly billing, have been essential. Key technologies used have been Teradata, Oracle, Ab Initio, Unix scripting , SQL and PL/SQL. I regularly liaised with the business in order to further clarify/capture requirements for development and its feasibility, sometimes working from or producing low level design documents. Other teams I liaised with include BI support and change management, in order to promote report code into production.

I also worked on larger BI projects covering the full development lifecycle namely an interconnect customer margin contribution project that aimed to further increase data availability and reportability of interconnecting mobile networks. I mainly worked on designing and coding aggregate views within the Teradata datawarehouse, creating low level design documents, development of code and unit / link testing. I also worked on a project called the ‘Actionable Data Store’ (ADS) project (a Unica campaigning project) following a RAD development approach.

  • Business Intelligence Technical Developer

    EDS, an HP company

(Privately Held; Information Technology and Services industry)

    February 2006July 2006 (6 months)

Transitioned (TUPEd) from Vodafone to EDS as part of Europe wide outsourcing deal. However, the role did not change. Therefore, same job role as above.

  • Software Engineer

    Accenture

(Public Company; ACN; Management Consulting industry)

    November 2003July 2006 (2 years 9 months)

I joined Accenture’s graduate scheme having completed a Masters degree in IT. Accenture is the world’s largest management and technology services Consultancy, based in over 100 countries. I have worked as a software engineer on a number of client based technology projects (most recent first). Others included Thames Water (Reading) and Rural Planning Agency (Reading):

    Client: Sainsburys (London)
    Project: Retek (RSS)
Role: Working within the technical architecture team providing fixes for batch processes that ran in Control M. Problems raised in Remedy were investigated and resolved. These involved writing/fixing Unix, Pro*C, PL/SQL, SQL and RETL (Retek language) scripts. Problems were raised by application support teams in Remedy and investigated/fixed by the technical architecture team. The role also involved constant manipulation of data on Oracle 9i databases.

    Client: Dixons Group (Hemel Hempstead)
    Project: Commercial Excellence Programme
Role: Working in a team comprising external vendor and internal consultants on a migration exercise of a retail forecasting tool (Manugistics). In order for successful migration, a number of UNIX shell, PL/SQL scripts were written to perform the daily/weekly batch jobs for the new version of the current system. They included the writing of Oracle SQL Loader scripts as well as unit testing.

    Client: Pfizer (Dublin)
    Project: Oracle 9i Data Cleanse
Role: Working on an Oracle 9i database cleanse assignment. This involved extensive creation of SQL scripts to compare/update Pfizer vendor records with correct data. The complete process involved use of SQL, TOAD and Oracle Applications. Detailed technical document was produced as deliverable.
