Alex Asbury's Experience

Camera Assistant

Aenon Films

October 2012December 2012 (3 months) England

Supporting experienced Cameraman Eric Huyton for the filming of Churchill: The Darkest Hours. The role required pick up and transport of equipment, speedy set up of lighting and dolly apparatus, and assisting on certain shots for focus pulls

Digital Technician

Ammonite Films

Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Media Production industry

July 2012October 2012 (4 months) Bristol, United Kingdom

In this position I was responsible for maintaining the computer systems in the Ammonite office, organising new material and backups, distributing edits to clients, and cutting showreels of material for footage sales. On a number of occasions I was called upon to employ Ammonite's advanced noise reduction techniques for external clients such as the BBC. Ammonite predominantly uses Final Cut Pro 7 for editing material.

Data Wrangler

Ammonite Films

August 2012September 2012 (2 months) Kenya

During a production trip to the Masai Mara in Kenya, my role was to manage the media downloads from a variety of cameras and sound recorders. It was my priority to maintain backups of all data. Additionally I was tasked with organising material for viewing in timelines using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 so that selects could easily be made in the field.

Broadcast Media industry

May 2012June 2012 (2 months) Bristol, United Kingdom

Making sure the editors were well supported was my priority as well as running errands and delivering media to clients. My work sometimes required me to ingest material onto servers for editors to access.

Privately Held; 1001-5000 employees; Broadcast Media industry

November 2011March 2012 (5 months) Perth Area, Australia

Here my role was to edit news stories and live-voice-over material for presentation on air. Liaising with journalists produced content of a high quality under time pressure.

Ingest Operator

Seven Network Limited

Public Company; 1001-5000 employees; SEV (ASX); Broadcast Media industry

August 2011March 2012 (8 months) Perth Area, Australia

Working sometimes alone and sometimes in a team, I was responsible for ingesting raw camera footage and completed stories from network and local partner stations into the Quantel servers, enabling the editors to cut packages, as well as checking content for errors such as flash frames before broadcast. As part of my own drive to learn, I regularly attended the station when not scheduled to work in order to practise editing in the Quantel environment.
