Theatre and Web Professional

My career mixes theatre/drama and a learning specialism in equal measure.
I work in all aspects of e-learning and blended learning for school-age children, with particular experience in:
- museums, libraries and archives
- gifted education
- humanities
- theatre and drama, including podcasting
I offer:
- educational/training content writing across the curriculum
- specification of interactives
- teaching and programme design for projects in schools
- practical music activities
- research skills
- project management on educational projects, esp. museums, libraries and archives
- anything to do with podcasting (incl. editing)
In addition I work as:
- a composer for theatre and musical theatre
- a sound designer
As a consultant, I am known for my original thinking, for being able to winnow out and understand the essence of a brief (not wasting time and effort on makeweight irrelevancies), and for delivering practical, deliverable proposals.
My particular specialism is in focusing the educational quality of resources - helping all my clients avoid the danger of letting the technology lead.

July 2004 — December 2007 (3 years 6 months)
London Gifted & Talented offer specially designed programmes for the top ten percent of students across the London boroughs. Starting with the How Do You Mean? project in 2004, I've been increasingly working on the production of new resources, events and other learning opportunities. These range right across the curriculum from Religious Education to Physics and Evolutionary Biology, as well as such things as combinations of philosophy, dance and critical thinking. The emphasis is on higher-order sorts of activities.
(Government Agency; 1001-5000 employees; Libraries industry)
August 2001 — June 2004 (2 years 11 months)
For my first year I was responsible for strategic planning and day-to-day project-management of all on site schools’ activities, contributing to the development processes of exhibitions and developing an onsite schools’ programme for the Trading Places exhibition, May-September 2002.
My brief then shifted to the digital side of the operation, where I developed the British Library's learning website at www.bl.uk/learning, for which projects included:
- Black History Blog (non-traditional audiences researching)
- Texts in Context (KS3 and sixth-form students use rare BL texts in combination with local museum visits)
- The Ideas Storage Zone (young people consider the problem of taxonomy)
- Disinformation (young people working on the problem of reliability of sources)
The experimental, innovative nature of this work meant I had to manage a very amorphous set of tasks, and apply advanced learning theory to all resources commissioned.
