Supporting voluntary and community organisations in Hammersmith and Fulham to collaborate to tender for contracts to deliver publicly-funded services.
Current projects and pre-occupations include:
Working with Hammersmith and Fulham PCT to develop a quality assurance framework and supporting Training Academy. Lots of interesting issues including proportionate quality assurance requirements according to monetary value of contracts and complexity/level of risk.
Working with LB Hammersmith & Fulham and voluntary sector organisations to learn from the process of commissioning for Generations Together. Again, lots of issues including how to improve collaboration between central government, local government and the voluntary sector.
Thinking about the potential transformative nature of the move to commissioning and what that means for the voluntary sector and voluntary and community organisations. For example, how to embed, value and reward innovation; how to enable open organisations and non-restrictive employment practices; how to share responsibility across organisations for developing people.
Questioning ideas about carving up services, for example capacity-building, between voluntary sector infrastructure support organisations. Would it be better to consider sharing services across organisations as a distributed network?
Wondering what "3rd Sector" means and why the voluntary sector has blindly accepted the imposition of an externally state-determined identity with, apparently, no critique.
Realising the significance of people for organisations, services and communities, the need for truly strategic human resource and co-production policies and what we can learn from the private sector.
Considering how to use social media to further these ideas, following inspiring people and searching for clues on the interweb.
Finding it immensely exciting!
