Freelance professional photographer
St Albans, United Kingdom
Freelance photographer with nearly 25 years' experience, 19 of which working for local newspaper groups...a very challenging and rewarding experience - sometimes covering up to a dozen assignments a day - all interesting in their own way.
Including (but not limited to): Local and national political campaigns, (M.Thatcher), illustrating the plight of Romanian orphans, advertising features, every sport you could shake a stick at, golden weddings, actors/theatre, musicians, flower shows, train crashes, local schools coverage and regular visits to maternity units to photograph new-borns. The journey continues...
'Variety' really is the spice of life.
After achieving promotions, experiencing numerous newspaper group mergers and relocation I decided to take the plunge and become a full time freelance photographer in November 2005 leaving job security behind me to devote my time to photography with Creative Empathy.
Going freelance was the scariest, yet best thing I ever did!
I now spend quality time on each assignment, listening so as to produce the best results. I help to promote businesses, individuals, charities, illustrate goods and services for corporate clients and SMEs as well as capture those special moments we all appreciate. I love my job.
My clients value the time and effort that I take in discussing their needs well before my camera comes out of its bag. It's my tried and tested formula. If you know what you want to convey - I am listening.
Being able to provide a creative, professional, yet personal service is truly an enjoyable passion of mine whether it is to record, illustrate, amuse or provoke - I'm an experienced eye for what you need - in the best possible way.
I just don't do paparazi (hope I spelt that incorrectly) - I have a life and can sleep peacefully at night !

Newsquest was previously Westminster Press (Pearson GP) and previous to that, CH Peacock.. (Oh the days of 'paste-up' and darkrooms) There were so many changes and company buy-outs and mergers during my career it was difficult to keep up!
Simply put.. I joined an established successful group of newspapers in 1989: Promoted to Chief Photographer shortly after, then promoted to Picture Editor in 1991. I resigned sometime later to become Chief Photographer with the Newsquest Group ( a Gannett Co) until I left to become full time freelance in November 2005.

My working life started out at British Aerospace (BAE) in 1984 as an apprentice electronics engineer in missile guidance. I soon realised my interest in photography would be a worthwhile career to pursue!
