Enterprise Architect at Aviva
Norwich, United Kingdom
I am an Enterprise Architect within the Strategy and Governance department of IT Solutions at Aviva.
My daily role involves equal parts of project governance through engaging with the major change programs within Norwich Union and seeking to develop the architecture capability within the organisation, including adoption and spread of best practice and core capabilities across the Aviva group.
Current assignments include responsibility for development of and alignment to architecture which supports core business function. Development is led by longer term business objectives as detailed in strategy.
Technical experience includes a large scale pilot implementation and deployment of IBM WebSphere Portal and IBM collaboration products into an enterprise environment, including integration with existing Domino infrastructure.
Past activities include leading research and evangelism of emerging technologies including WEB 2.0, virtualisation and the development collaborative community on a corporate wiki.
Prior to my current role I have managed a software development team including operations in support and transition of critical e-commerce architecture, developed and maintained software written in a variety of languages across a range of platforms.
I joined Norwich Union at the grass roots through a business team and have worked through multiple insurance disciplines before putting the knowledge gained at the coal face to use creating and enhancing the technology solutions in support of business activities.
My key goals at present are focused on development of a successful architecture to support business plans, promotion of tooling and methods to improve project delivery and collaboration capabilities to help join up and empower workers. Despite the current focuses I will always strive to deliver innovative solutions to existing problems and highlight and raise awareness of emergent technologies which will provide real business differentials.
