    #Geomob (London Geo/Mobile Developers Meetup)

    (Internet industry)

    September 2008Present (1 year 5 months)

Founder and organiser for London's first meetup group focused on geo and mobile web applications; a forum for people in these fields to meet their peers, network, discuss new developments, showcase new products, and share knowledge. Starting from scratch I have used my networking and communication skills to build a community of over 160 members. So far I have successfully run two meetups, sponsored by Yahoo! and Google, with 70 people attending the latest event and many positive reviews. On the strength of this success I have been recruited to the AGI conference Organising Committee, and am playing a key role in organising Britain’s largest GIS conference.

  • Technical Lead / GIS Solution Architect

    Transport for London

    (Government Agency; Transportation/Trucking/Railroad industry)

    April 2008April 2009 (1 year 1 month)

Initially employed to develop automated Business Intelligence systems, by identifying opportunities to improve system architecture my role has significantly expanded. Building cross-departmental relationships I have sought to break business cultural barriers, and overcome industry inertia to steer the division towards IT best practices. I played a key role in defining system architecture and specification, and achieving corporate buy-in for a GIS driven Service Oriented Architecture. Duties undertaken include: interfacing with operational units, analysing requirements and translating into functional application and systems requirements. Performing source system analysis, data profiling, identifying key data issues and documenting business processes to evaluate the as-is situation. Leading the design of business intelligence application solutions including database design, spatial data processing and flows, report design and analytics integration with Oracle Spatial and ArcGIS Server.

  • Developer Intern

    Lokku

    (Privately Held; Internet industry)

    March 2008August 2008 (6 months)

Working for Nestoria, I developed the idea of a transport centric search to a functional proof of concept. The project life-cycle took the concept of a static travel time map to a fully interactive Web2.0 application. The concept and application was developed single-handed, utilising the Google Maps API, Nestoria API, JavaScript and PHP. The concept was extremely well received and became the first externally produced website to become part of their innovation showcase. Working together we launched the finished application, “Where Can I Live?”, to acclaim from TechCrunch UK and various property blogs: http://www.where-can-i-live.com

  • GIS Developer

    London Borough of Brent

(Government Agency; 1001-5000 employees; Government Administration industry)

    January 2008April 2008 (4 months)

I developed and managed the corporate web based GIS system for Brent, identifying information needs and developing innovative web GIS solutions to support strategic and operational decision making across the council. Developing includes: independently researching existing and potential new datasets, writing system specifications, programming (JavaScript, HTML, ASP.NET, SQL, ArcXML) and testing systems to operate on multiple database systems (SQL Server and ArcSDE). I proactively seek to develop and increase the range of information available to improve service delivery, including a new automated web based reporting system built on open source technology. Apart from web development I have developed a textured 3D model of Wembley High Street using LIDAR data, aerial photographs, field photographs and SketchUp Pro.

  • GIS Coordinator

    Chris Blandford Associates

(Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Information Technology and Services industry)

    June 2007January 2008 (8 months)

As GIS coordinator I was responsible for managing and developing GIS solutions for multiple, concurrent projects through their life cycle. From project inception I researched data sources, agreed licensing arrangements and collated information from agencies including: local government, governmental agencies, sub-contractors and NGOs. Once a comprehensive dataset had been built, I coordinated GIS users’ work over two office locations providing training and technical support while carrying out the more advanced GIS functions such as spatial analysis, programming in Visual Basic, and 3D modelling. As well as managing the day to day GIS operations of a busy environmental consultancy I wrote a GIS user manual for training new to intermediate level GIS users and built a database of commonly used data for quick access in future projects. Other duties included image processing, data loading, georeferencing, converting data and maintaining metadata standards.
