Responsible for maintaining and updating the network infrastructure at six sites, covering more than 200 racks. Involved with designing, simulating, implementing and testing a custom-built datacentre network for eventual deployment of 500 racks, along with the office networking and VoIP setup.
Heavy user of multiprotocol BGP, OSPFv2/3, VRRP and sanitised RSTP. Juniper J/M/MX/EX routing is used, and I successfully managed a team to upgrade the core routing infrastructure from single LX fiber with M7i to 802.3ad bonded links on an MX240 backbone with BGP Multipath on Tier-1 NSPs - with zero downtime.
Additionally, I designed and implemented an RSVP-signalled MPLS pseudowire backhaul service for our clients from our datacentre in Hemel Hempstead to various London sites, with geographically diverse connectivity.
I also implemented a converged monitoring system that monitors everything from power and environmental monitoring units to BGP sessions and system health.
(Non-Profit; Events Services industry)
August 2003 — August 2008 (5 years 1 month)
During each August, I was a part of a small team that produce (mostly) live content for broadcast to the Finnish nation (1.2 million households) and the internet.
The content is very technical in nature, and is related to the "demoscene" where programmers produce non-interactive works of audio/visual art for a big screen viewed by >5000 people at the event and countless others around the globe.
The live features usually involve interviews with little preparation, requiring "on-the-spot" thinking, in addition to thoroughly pre-researched inserts with sponsors, detailing their experiences and offers etc.
As of 2005, I started taking on a larger role, and now stand as an "unofficial" team leader due to my experience in the role.
