Marcel Kornblum's Summary
I'm a technical person who can talk to normal people. I have a background in various languages (computer and human), and my experience spans every aspect of setting up a website, the tools and team to set a website up, and the company to set the tools and team up.
I'm good at seeing the big picture and I've always been able to explain technical concepts to non-technical people. I’ve led cross-disciplinary teams of permanent and freelance staff. I’ve created, designed and built software (and a little hardware) on my own and with others. I’ve been the architect of six-figure interactive films. I’ve produced, Produced, and Executive Produced.
Right now, I spend my days making all sorts of decisions; from strategic company direction, staff hires and sales approach, through the financial and political aspects of specific projects, via technical overview, structure and architecture and all the way down to specific user experience calls on individual interfaces. Writing and answering emails figure pretty heavily too.

I act as a technical lead on most interactive projects that come through the door, leading a cross-disciplinary team in figuring out how to address new challenges in a way that creatively meets business and brand requirements. I often act as the client's primary technical contact, making sure that our team and our clients are thinking about the same functionality, and that we deliver what's expected - or more.
These days I also play a part in running individual jobs as Exec Producer, and the company as a whole, alongside the other senior team members.
Since helping to set the company up as an in-house development shop, I've set up the development environment, configured the live and staging environments and set up processes as well as being technical lead and senior PHP developer.

I was brought onto a project at my previous employer in order to develop the structure of an ambitious project, deriving a brief and subsequently Technical and Functional Requirements Documents from a non-technical client contact.

Leading a team of both contract and permanent staff with either PHP skills or Front End web skills, I entered the department at a time of flux. Initially one of only 2 developers out of a total of 35 staff, by the time I left the company had grown to approximately 70 staff, and I was responsible for up to 11 developers.
I initiated the redevelopment of the core business systems, being personally responsible for overall system design and for coordinating a variety of conflicting requirements from various internal departments, while creating a system that would be capable of meeting the business’ changing needs as it rapidly expanded following VC investment. I worked closely with the User Experience Manager to create the new website and was ultimately responsible for the standard of all code produced.

I ran the consultancy and development company Marcel &c, specialising in Usability Consulting but also undertaking project and technical management and development work for a variety of clients.
The company undertook interface projects in any media but specialised in the web and IPTV sectors, although desktop application interfaces have also been successfully designed.
