Jenny Brown’s Experience

  • Social Media Advisor & Advisory Board member

    Street Action

    (Fund-Raising industry)

    November 2009Present (3 months)

Street Action (UK and USA) is a charity 'committed to raising support for and advocating on behalf of street children organisations in Africa.'

Street Action is focussed on becoming a '21st century NGO'. I'm helping them become comfortable and confident in the online environment in order to build genuine relationships with supporters and advocates and highlight Street Action messages.

  • Social Media Adviser

    Ministry of Justice

    (Government Agency; Government Administration industry)

    August 2008Present (1 year 6 months)

My job is to look for opportunities and encourage the Ministry of Justice to use web-based tools to improve working practices and communications, both internally and with the public.

I produced a successful media monitoring 'dashboard' for the Press Office using free online tools. The dashboard has given the Press Office a much broader view of online media and has enabled press officers to respond to and rebut inaccurate stories before they break.

I helped the 'People, Power & Politics' policy team establish a 'national discussion' through development of a Wordpress website, a Twitter account and other social networking activities.

I carry out regular video production training with internal comms and press officers. Training is concentrated on the production of 'behind-the-scenes' footage for use on the intranet and for distribution to media outlets via YouTube.

I set up a regular programme of webchats between board members, ministers and MoJ staff. A first for Ministry of Justice, they've been extremely well received by staff and 'VIPs' alike.

  • Media Capture Team Leader

    Greenbelt festival

    (Performing Arts industry)

    July 2008Present (1 year 7 months)

I lead a team of around 20 people who make up film crews, edit teams and support staff.

We capture and edit video content throughout the annual festival that takes place on August bank holiday weekend.

The videos attempt to represent the huge breadth of the Greenbelt programme and include interviews with speakers, performances from poets and musicians, introductions to activities taking place, discussions between contributors, and more...

All the videos are available to view here: http://www.vimeo.com/greenbelt

The videos are highlighted on the Greenbelt website during the festival and remain there for posterity: http://www.greenbelt.org.uk/network/video

You can hear a short interview with me talking about my work in the Greenbelt September 2009 podcast:

  • Director

    The Awesome Web Company

    (Internet industry)

    April 2008Present (1 year 10 months)

I produce strategies that enable clients to engage with online audiences through blogs, social networks and content sharing sites.

Usually this begins with mapping the 'buzz' around the brand and evaluating audience sentiment.

Recommendations are based on clients existing marketing requirements and encourage new techniques to engage meaningfully and effectively with audiences.

I also design websites with social media at their core.

I advise clients on content approach, how to facilitate conversation and content sharing, and suggest techniques for engaging with audiences across other websites and services.
