[When there's a novel client problem that needs solving with a Microsoft platform, I'm often the guy who gets the opportunity to roll up my sleeves to do or to teach, or both. Never a dull moment as they say. Very excited by the developments coming out of Redmond these days. I can often be heard evangelising about the benefits of .NET or Sharepoint to collegues and clients.]

Jamie McAllister’s Education

  • University of Liverpool

    Science Teaching 19941995

This year really taught me how to present technical material to a (sometimes) hostile audience. Tens of lessons a week, taking care of the health and safety of my charges when the nasty chemicals or the electricity were on display. I was made of stronger steel after being tempered in this particular forge.

  • Sheffield Hallam University

    BSc(Hons) , Engineering Physics , 19901994

For academic study Physics was my one true love. It doesn't get any bigger or better and was immensely enjoyable.
The course included a rewarding 1-year full time position as a scientist at ICI ImageData, Manningtree, UK, researching novel laser printing techniques. Wouldn't change that year for the world, but it did make me realise that carving out a lifelong career in Physics wouldn't be the best direction for me.
If you're not cut out to be a great experimentalist or theorist either, it's time to be honest with yourself and do something else.
