Since 1996 I've worked for clients ranging from the academic, the dot-com and the retail to the FTSE 100. I've designed, built, administered and managed systems including e-commerce and financial applications, document and content management, web-based email, reporting and data reconciliation tools; I've written client/server software, created simple and efficient ORM and MVC frameworks, streamlined development practices, led multi-disciplined development teams on multiple concurrent projects, designed and deployed hosting platforms for websites of widely different profiles, and managed technical partner relationships on projects for household name companies.
I thrive on getting technical things done, and done well; often at a fast pace, and in fast-paced environments. For a fair while I just did the things myself, but over the last few years, I've worked with teams of steadily growing size to get the doing done by the whole group.
Technical direction, management, planning & firefighting, as appropriate; Internet systems architecture, design, development, deployment & administration; unix, linux, mac, apache, nginx, sql, mysql, oracle, php, perl, C, java, OO, svn, subversion, orm, rdbms, webobjects, rails, mongrel, shell, javascript, soap, xml, dom, bash, dns, bind, tcp/ip, vpn, firewall, vlan, open source, version control, sysadmin, scaling, distribution, semantics, logic, capacity & resource planning, etc.

I work with technology at the Guardian, getting quality software built and delivered. I'm closely involved with digital output ranging from guardian.co.uk site functionality, infrastructure projects, private and public APIs, through to commercial client campaigns and mobile apps using those services. Day-to-day I'm engaged in technical and programme management, and extensive communication with very varied stakeholders throughout the organisation, including editorial & commercial teams, alongside numerous 3rd party delivery partners.
