I have a portfolio career and it currently has a gap! I'd be interested in exploring opportunities where I could provide a valuable contribution - perhaps for a grouping of independent accounting firms?
In addition to running the Tax Advice Network, which was founded primarily as a resource for accountants in general practice, I am a regular speaker, commentator and blogger on UK tax matters and the accountancy profession - especially on subjects of interest to accountants in general practice. I've been interviewed for BBC Newsnight, Working Lunch, News and Breakfast. And I've been published by most of the top Accountancy and tax press.
By way of background I qualified as a Chartered Accountant (not the boring type) in 1982 and then worked my way up to become a partner in two top ten firms of accountants in London.
Having spent 25 years advising on tax and achieving a great deal in my tax career I realised that I had stopped getting a buzz from giving tax advice. However, the profession has been so good to me over the years that I couldn’t walk away completely. And part of me missed the high profile role and responsibility I had when I was Chairman of the ICAEW Tax Faculty. I now feel I have regained that voice in my role as Chairman of the UK’s first independent network of tax advisers.
I remain committed to the raising of standards within the profession and have developed somewhat of a passion in this regard - as evidenced by many of my talks and articles.
Essentially all of my activities revolve around helping accountants and tax advisers to build more successful businesses.
I am flattered by many of the kind words contained in the recommendations that have been attached to my LinkedIn profile.

The Tax Advice Network exists to enable accountants (and anyone else) faced with tricky tax problems to source suitably experienced tax specialists who can solve their problems or provide the necessary advice. The website enables users to establish their own search criteria and to choose an appropriate member of the network of tax advisers (or tax advisors if you prefer) to solve the underlying tax problem.
We have tax advisers all over the UK and are now adding in a listing service for tax advisers based overseas too.
The network also provides another route to market for independent tax specialists who are keen to be part of a growing community of tax advisers and to secure more work, principally from accountants.

I consciously chose to pursue a portfolio career in 2006 when I decided I didn't want to be a provider of tax advice myself any more. I explained my reasons for this career move in a lead article for Taxation magazine in July 2008.
More recently I established the Tax Advice Network - see above.
'BookMarkLee' is the 'brand' name under which I have provided my services as a consultant, mentor, speaker, and author of articles and advice for and about the accountancy and tax professions.
