Learning about marketing in order to progress my entertainment website at the age of 17 was the driving force that led me to read a Marketing, Advertising and Communications degree at the University of Gloucestershire. This soon inspired my interest into the digital world, not only in marketing but in media as a whole. I have explored many technologies and core pillars of the digital world and tied them into my knowledge of marketing; the selling and setting up of commercial websites and the full production journey (from storyboard to presentation) of commercial video.
My latest and most recent position in marketing resides in the excitingly fresh sector of Consumer Customer Experience for a leading UK Telco. Whilst different to some of my experience in Google Analytics & Adwords and content writing, it has already proven to be a rewarding and challenging experience.
Ocere is a global digital marketing agency that specialises in SEO. Here is what my position at the firm consisted of:
◆Created digital content for large scale organisations
◆Developed SEO reviews and On-page reports
◆Managed multiple Wordpress websites, maintaining the content and adjusting HTML code.
Surface Rush was a multi-media production company that specialised in video production and web design. During my time I became proficient in:
◆Creating commercial videos for SME's
◆Using industry standard video equipment and editing software
◆Creating personal and business bespoke Wordpress websites
◆Day to day client communication and service
In 2011 I decided to take my interest in film and developed it into something greater. I formed an entertainment website featuring articles surrounding the Hollywood and the national UK independent movie scene. My achievements with this project include:
◆Gaining and organising a global writing team to produce weekly content
◆Obtaining over 3000 monthly unique viewers, tracked with Google Analytics
◆Supporting Google Adsense and receiving daily advertising enquiries
◆Managing multiple social media streams actively
During the time between my first and second year of university, I volunteered at my local Shelter UK charity shop. Within three weeks, I became a key volunteer. I was trusted upon to open up the shop and deal with the finances at the end of day banking. The day to day routine consisted of building relationships with customers and making sure the store was presentable with the goal to help homeless men and women in the UK gain the home they deserve.
Into the Mind was a short film I wrote and directed for the Shropshire 48 Hour Competition in which myself and a team of 5 others placed second.
Undertaking this degree has been a key motivator for wanting to work in the marketing industry. I have developed my ability to work well in, but also lead, a small team and accomplish set goals. It has reinforced my patience working in these teams, as well as my public speaking and presentation skills since numerous assignments on my course require creating and presenting marketing ideas to an audience. My first year result, combining both individual and team assignments, was a 2:1, which I am predicted to maintain for my final year result.
