Think about it this way ‘In a football team, all players are footballers and can kick the ball or matter where they are on the football field even the goal keeper,’ but they all have key responsibility within the team i.e. a ‘’Striker’’ ‘’Defender’’. But the key point is that wherever they are place on the field they will be able to participate because they have been trained to be footballers because but only when they get to that area of expertise (Striker) can they perform efficiently and effectively. The key rule is that they must tried to stay within there are of expertise.
The illustration above can be related to the Business Analyst world. For example: Being an Agile Business Analyst does not mean that the individual will be able to work in any type of Agile project, they may not have all the experience necessary may not fit into the organsiation based on the current structure and how the Agile project is currently being managed within that particular. Please don’t get me wrong as they will be a few cases where they can adapt. But by understanding the organisation needs better they can be able to tailor their skills to meet the organisation’s needs
Being a lead/Senior Business Analyst for the last 8 years, I have noticed that sometimes we business Analyst always like to be footballer with a particular skills but don’t really care where we play or where we are situated on the football field.
It not only about employing and effective and experience Business analysts but ensuring that their skills set meet the needs of the organsiation and having the right toll in place to tailor their skill to meet the needs of the organisation. « less
